Art in the square

October 16 & 17, 2010

This charming juried festival features 150 fine artists
and offers patrons 2 full days of art.

On October 16 and 17, Georgetown, Texas will be holding the second annual outdoor fine art and contemporary art festival in Georgetown's historic downtown square. Art In Square is a juried festival featuring 175 fine artists in a charming location. In the Texas Hill Country only 30 miles from Austin, Georgetown is the perfect setting for artists and art lovers.

Georgetown Art in the Square's mission is to provide central Texas access to a broad array of art experiences and to help support Georgetown and central Texas art education. Produced by The Blue Lotus Art Show Tour, Georgetown Art in the Square 2010 is guaranteed to bring artists from many disciplines together for an unforgettable art event.

For two magic days, the Georgetown square is transformed into an outdoor art gallery. Downtown restaurants are open for business during the festival to provide a wide range of food and beverage choices to patrons. There is also a 'Kids Create' area where the young ones are offered interactive art activities to create and take home.

"Art in the Square is the centerpiece of October, the month of the Arts, for the City of Georgetown," says Charles Aguillon, Chairperson of the City of Georgetown Arts & Culture Board. "The high caliber of artists in the show is indicative of our vision to make Georgetown an Arts and Culture destination. Art in the Square is an important part of that vision."

The event is FREE and everyone is invited to enjoy!

About Georgetown:

Georgetown is the perfect location for an enjoyable weekend for patrons and a profitable one for artists. Georgetown's pride in the city's history is evident in the city's architecture, as well as its fondness for tradition. The restored and revitalized historic district has been carefully preserved and almost fully restored to its historic beauty. Most of the buildings around the square date from the late 19th century. Late 19th-century Queen Annes and Greek Revivals as well as beautiful 1930s Arts and Crafts and Stick Victorian homes are scattered throughout the area. The tree-lined streets and Victorian architecture recall a more genteel era.

At the same time, Georgetown is a city that understands the importance of modernization. Free public wi-fi internet access is available to all visitors in the downtown square. And the city center is only a few minutes from Interstate 35 while remaining surprisingly free from traffic congestion.
